READING
We have been continuing to read 'The Way Back Home' by Oliver Jeffers, although we are nearing the end of this now. We have been breaking it down into smaller chunks and really getting to grips with understanding phrases and vocabulary.
WRITING
This week we have been writing expanded noun phrases about the boy and the martian in our story 'The Way Back Home'. Some children are still struggling to include a capital letter and a full stop in the correct places, so this has been a huge focus.
PHONICS
This week we have been recapping all of the sounds for set 1, 2 and 3 as the children have their phonics screening test next week. Please practise segmenting (breaking words up into sounds) and blending (putting the sounds together to make a word) words with your child.
SPELLINGS
This week's spellings for Group A are as follows;
the /l/ or /ul/ sound spelt -el at the end of words. This spelling is used after m, n, r, s, v, w and commonly s.
camel
tunnel
squirrel
travel
towel
tinsel
hazel
vowel
angel
jewel
Adding the endings -ing and -ed to verbs. If the verb ends in two consonant letters (the same of different), the ending is simply added on. It will be helpful to your child if they learn the verb on its own first and then add the ending (suffix) e.g. learn 'hunt' before adding -ing or -ed.
hunting
buzzing
jumping
walking
shouting
hunted
buzzed
jumped
walked
shouted
