READING
This week we have been reading a Julia Donaldson book called 'Princess Mirror-Belle and the flying horse' during class reader time.
We have also been doing lots of reading in class to practise our pace and fluency. The children have practised their comprehension skills by answering questions about what they have read. In year 2, it is expected that children read 90 words in one minute. This is a lot of words to read, especially when some children still need to 'sound out' words before reading. This is why it is so important that children also practise these words at home. I have attached a couple of 60 second reads that the children can practise at home and then they could answer the questions thhat go with the text.
WRITING
This week we have been doing lots of writing about our book 'The way back home'. The children have been writing whether they would like to visit the moon with the characters we have met in the story so far. We have also done lots of writing in our project lessons too.

PHONICS
This week we have worked in our phonics groups again and recapped a lot of the Set 1 and Set 2 sounds. Phonics screening will soon be happening so it would be great if you could allow your child practise at home.
